The traditional art of incense making incense has been an important Bhutanese craft for many hundreds of years. The purity of this tradition, along with high-quality natural ingredients, have made Bhutanese incense the most popular Himalayan herbal incenses.

HOW DIFFERENT ARE BHUTANESE INCENSE COMPARE TO TIBETAN AND NEPALESE INCENSE

Bhutanese incense is different from Tibetan, Nepal and India, is based on the intensity of the aroma and slower burning time.

THE PROCESS OF MAKING BHUTAN INCENSE

All ingredients are first ground into powder mix with water, sugar and honey. This mixture will then go through a fermentation process that takes about a week or so to produce its unique fragrance.

A tree bark, Tshe, will be added to the mixture to act as an adhesive. and further mashed before moulding to the stick shape.

The sticks will then straighten, trim into different lengths, and dried in the shade for 4 to 5 days.

HOW WE DETERMINE THE GRADES OF THE INCENSE

Juniper is the main component and the amount of juniper determines the grade of the incense.
