Vast Rice Bank Project - No one deserves to go hungry

Monday, August 31, 2020

Asha Karma, the founder of Voluntary Artists' Studio, (VAST), believes that art can be a form of communication that conveys social issues and connects with the younger generation.

The Fourth Rice Bank project was held at Zarbisa chiwog under Kabji gewog in Punakha.

The 16 selected families are given 100 drey (one drey is equal to 1.5 to 2kgs) of rice to be paid back in instalments of 20 drey a year for five years without interest.

Families with payment difficulties will be provided with relief rice and workforce to meet the deadline.

All rice will be collected and sold under the VAST’s community development program.

Bhutan Natural is proud to support and distribute the Voluntary Artists' Studio, (VAST), Rice Bank Project - No One Deserves to Go Hungry in Singapore.

Proceeds from the Milled Red Rice sale:

  • Fifty per cent for buying rice to be distributed to the families as relief rice for free.
  • Fifty per cent for deposited as seed money for the next Rice Bank.
