The traditional art of incense making has been an important Bhutanese craft for many hundreds of years. The purity of this tradition, along with high-quality natural ingredients, have made Bhutanese incense the most popular Himalayan herbal incenses.

 

HOW DIFFERENT ARE BHUTANESE INCENSE COMPARE TO TIBETAN AND NEPALESE INCENSE

Bhutanese incense is different from Tibetan, Nepal and India, is based on the intensity of the aroma and slower burning time.

 

THE PROCESS OF MAKING BHUTAN INCENSE

All ingredients are first ground into powder mix with water, sugar and honey. This mixture will then go through a fermentation process that takes about a week or so to produce its unique fragrance.

A tree bark, Tshe, will be added to the mixture to act as an adhesive. and further mashed before moulding to the stick shape.

The sticks will then straighten, trim into different lengths, and dried in the shade for 4 to 5 days.

 

HOW WE DETERMINE THE GRADES OF THE INCENSE

Juniper is the main component and the amount of juniper determines the grade of the incense.

The better the Grade is the lesser amount of juniper being used. Therefore, increasing the ratio and aroma of the other precious ingredients.

Wood Barks: Agarwood, Cedar, Cyperus, Sandalwood, Juniper, and Cassia

Seeds and Fruits: Star Anise, Nutmeg, Juniper Berries, Coriander Seeds, and Vanilla

Resin and Gums: Benzoin, copal, frankincense, myrrh, labdanum, Dragon's Blood, Mastic, Storax, Galbanum, Elemi, Opoponax, Tolu Balsam, Gum Arabic Resin, and Guggul Gum Resin

天然藏香不丹香

藏香" 是西藏医学的衍生. 主要是用诸多喜玛拉雅山区珍贵药草及矿石所制成的. 对于中枢神经及免疫系统都有很好的效果.

由于千年来的演进, 藏香主要分为几个区域生产. 1. 中国西藏区(含青海, 四川等), 2. 印度, 3. 不丹, 4. 尼泊尔等. 其中有许多的寺院千百年传承香, 各区特殊配方香等等. 因此发展出来不同区域的区域味道. 其中, 称不丹纳豆香(Nado Incense) 是"藏香之王"一点也不为过. 这是不丹皇室专用香, 香味醇厚, 香体扎实, 一般的香只要靠近鼻子就会有被熏到的味道, 而纳豆香(Nado Incense) 一点都不会. 加上是由纯天然的喜玛拉雅山区的珍贵药草制成, 完全天然.

不丹納豆極樂香簡介
不丹香在藏傳佛教中是品質最純淨優良的香品,不丹王國最有名的是納豆香(Nado),產自廷布(Thimphu)人煙罕至的山上小屋,一處車子無法到達的地方,因為產地相當靠近喜瑪拉雅山,空氣品質絕佳,水是採用喜瑪拉雅山的山泉水,環境清新宜人,所以生產出的香品品質當然也是一絕。


納豆香由多種香料︰包括牛黃、丁香、肉荳蔻、藏紅花、紅檀香、白檀香及多種藥材製成,製香成型後要蔭乾,再用酒紅色的細繩纏繞,最後再用手工紙包裝。製造過程完全純手工,並且嚴格遵循長久以來由廷布的Nado所把持的傳統古法,點燃後香氣淡雅馨香,亦可作為薰香使用。香氣有如生津止渴的大悲三昧水一般,使口鼻生香,有如感受到上師加持一般,對禪定而言有助於安定神經的作用,與一般粗糙會產生刺鼻煙薰味的香品不同。


此種臥香的製作構思於貝瑪卡波的囑咐,他任教於卓巴佛教學校,也是敏卓林寺的具德伏藏大師,此種藏香香氣有如生津止渴的大悲三昧水一般,使口鼻生香如親臨上師加持一般,不但有安定神經的作用,對禪修者更是助益良多.
